But how do we repeatedly relax in the face of whatever is going on inside us and around us? this question arises all the time because, unfortunately, it’s not as if we can release what we’re holding just once or twice and be done with it. We must cultivate the habit of continually welcoming ourselves, getting grounded, breathing into what we notice, and making space for it, knowing that in the next hour, the next days the next minute- we will invariably find ourselves holding again.
It does not require knowing all the answers to whatever may come up. We don’t need to figure everything out. We just need to give ourselves kind and friendly space to receive not only our first uncomfortable thought or feeling but every uncomfortable thought or feeling. If we can trust the ground to support us, we can open more fully to what we discover. It’s like allowing our breath to come in. WE don’t have to do anything. We simply need to welcome it.
Our real strength is in our ability to soften and receive.
