leaning in once again

The gift

Be still, my soul, and steadfast.

Earth and heaven both are still watching

though time is draining from the clock

and your walk, that was confident and quick,

has become slow.

So, be slow if you must, but let

the heart still play its true part.

Love still as once you loved, deeply

and without patience. Let God and the world

know you are grateful. That the gift has been given.

resting in simple spaces for now…

inquiry for today~ how will you care for the tender spaces?

I found peace…

The grass never sleeps or the roses,

nor does the lily have a secret eye that shuts until morning.

Jesus said; wait with me.

And the disciples slept.

The cricket has such splendid fringe on his feet, and it sings,

have you noticed, with its whole body, and heaven knows if it ever stops.

Jesus said, wait with me. And maybe the stars did, maybe the wind wound itself into a silver tree,

and didn’t move. Maybe the lake far away, where once he walked as on blue pavement,

lay still and waited, wild awake.

Oh the dear bodies, slumped and eye-shut, that could not keep that vigil.

How they must have wept, so utterly human,

knowing this too must be part of the story.

~Mary Oliver

  1. He wept
to know
His work
was done.
And in
His heart
rose sorrow.
For Love
could not
bring back
the Light
to eyes
now blind
by promise
of tomorrow
