Contemplative Art

As artists & yogis,

our bodies & minds

are the fundamental tools of our craft,

& yet the essential ingredient is the soul.

~Hari Kirin Kaur Khalsa

Contemplative art as a spiritual practice, living & breathing & being fed through service to “something greater,” is at the core of my work. Deep in the throes of my life, surrender is the balance between struggle & the flow of what is real & life-enriching.  As I dive into this place of soul tending, I find refuge in my own heart. There is a concept called “duende,” that speaks to me deeply. This Spanish word, meaning inspiration or passion, is at the core of my artistic process. Creativity, the creative process, making art, finding my voice~ all of it is about living authentically & with a sweetness & wildness & curiosity toward living fully~

This bone of fire, feeding, burning, moving, rattling~

may the creative fire warm the souls of friends,

light up revelations & inspirations,

& melt stars~

only then can they sift down into wishing hearts.

~In Blue

Creativity is not a noun or even a verb~

it is a place, a space, a gathering, a union~

wherein the Divine powers of creativity

& the human power of imagination join forces.

Where the two come together

is where beauty & grace happen

& indeed, explode.

~Matthew Fox
