It so happens that the work which is likely to be our most durable monument, and to convey some knowledge of us to the most remote posterity, is a work of bare utility, not a shrine, not a fortress, not a palace, but a bridge……………Harper’s Weekly, 1883
We’re all tied to some impossible vision. The fiery pain can singe a perfectly great intention.
I bow to my own inimical struggle, refusing to allow its limiting experience, yet facing its humbling perceptions.
Sitting here on Thanksgiving day with a coffee, gratitude, and volition.
I will serve my family with delight today…..stepping back to step into my own conscious gesture. They are bound together, links in the intimate striving with self.
I despair of myself lightly…….
I am not I. I am this one Who goes by my side unseen by me; Whom I, at times, go visit, And whom I, at times forget. He who keeps silent, serene, when I speak, He who forgives, sweet, when I hate, He who takes a walk where I am not, He who will remain standing when I die……………Juan Ramon Jiminez
