no Christmas sweaters please…

non-traditional, full of character, grace & grit....

“Soon the child’s clear eye is clouded over by ideas and opinions, preconceptions, and abstractions. Simple free being becomes encrusted with the burdensome armor of the ego. Not until years later does an instinct come that a vital sense of mystery has been withdrawn. The sun glints through the pines and the heart is pierced in a moment of beauty and strange pain, like a memory of paradise. After that day, we become seekers.” Peter Muryo Matthiessen

This quote seems to sum up my Santa Claus epiphanies…then & now….

Seeking the mystery….

Don’t let ‘them’ fool you….Christmas has a lot of grit in its underbelly….

Requiring fierce grace, lots of make-believe, & sheer audacity…..just to get through with a little calm in our hearts…finding beauty in the twinkling lights…

please….Christmas needs lots of shades of white, lots of quiet, lots of reflection, lots of chocolate, lots of mistletoe, lots of laughter, lots of fun, lots of memories, lots of ornaments, lots of angels, lots of greenery, lots of goodwill, lots of mystery….

please….Christmas needs much less red & green, less shopping, less bad food, less small talk at parties, less moralistic code, less fruitcake, less waving Santas, less grinch behavior, less Christmas gear…

let us be more sensitive to those who struggle this time of year…to those who need….to those who don’t feel warm by the fire…

follow the pangs in your heart….give more….remember to warm your inner circle to include the dark corners….

Christmas healing begins when we soften ourselves toward our own tender self…

when we pause within, we find a refuge in ourselves; when we need ourselves, we are there for us. So often when we need ourselves, we’re not there, the source of our uglies…

but when we connect to ourselves, this is when our self-knowing, self-forgiveness reveals our connections to our shared humanity….peace to all, good will toward men…

this is what we seek, when we name our seeking…this is believing in Santa Claus….seeking that magic….remembering our source…
