where the light meets shadowed passion

light in the window

Love for life, passion for life, deep gratitude for every moment of it, extending one’s heart and brain into eternity and totality, from the fishes and the fowl to the stars, from youth to old age, from the glaciers to the tropics, from the prodigy of birth to the mystery of death, man can indeed partake in all creation if he switches on, deep inside, the will for life, the decision for happiness, the option for love. I have ‘decided’ to love my life, to throw in my gauntlet for it, to believe in it, to find it exalting in every respect, at every moment, from the beginning to the end. Love is the only way out, the secret of secrets. Happiness is a state of mind, a click inside us, a conscious, determined decision or will to embrace with fascination, enthusiasm (that is, by God possessed), the entire world and creation. Happiness is total consciousness. Happiness is the peak fulfillment of life. It is a human’s own doing, his greatest power and liberty. Happiness is not external to man, it is a genial force in him. It cannot be elsewhere. It is not part of nature or of the world, it is an attribute, an essence of the human person. It is above prison, death, poverty, disability, injustice, age, inequality, and prejudice. A vagabond in a ditch, a deprived artist or poet, an invalid, an uneducated tribesman surrounded by his wife and children can be a thousand times happier than an insatiable neurotic millionaire in his skyscraper. Billions of happy humans have walked on this planet throughout the ages who did not have the blessings of today. Happiness is the great revanche of the poor, the dreamers, the poets, the artists, the visionaries, the simple, the wise, the diminished, and all those guided by the heart rather than by power, money, and interest. Happiness is increasingly vital in a world of growing numbers, complexity, and anonymity, where glory is becoming increasingly difficult………..Robert Muller

the most elusive concept surrounds the idea of obtaining happiness…as if we could add it to our list of achievements….as if heartfulness means doing….as if life was something separate from our bodies, from our experience, from the call of the wild, deep soul……

The spotted hawk swoops by and accuses me,

he complains of my gab and loitering.

I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable,
I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.

The last scud of day holds back for me,
It flings my likeness after the rest

and true as any on the shadow’d  wilds,
It coaxes me to the vapor and the dusk.

I depart as air, I shake my white locks at the runaway sun,
I effuse my flesh in eddies, and drift it in lacy jags.

I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow

from the grass I love,
If you want me again look for me

under your boot-soles.
You will hardly know who I am or what I mean,
But I shall be good health to you nevertheless,
And filter and fibre your blood.

Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged,
Missing me one place search another,
I stop somewhere waiting for you.

….Walt Whitman

that golden light waits for us to catch up……

Inside an open rose
A tree frog
no bigger
than my thumbnail.
I try to imagine
rest like that,
tucked
in such a bed of petals.
I try to imagine
prayer like that,
listening
so intently
in the early light
and
saying so little.
The summer
teeters
now
into old age,
as do I,
those blackberries
that still cling
to their thorny arms
withering,
readying themselves
to trust the earth again,
where,
for a moment
at least,
there is a place for everything

….Bernado Taiz

  1. Ah the elusive happiness, so much so make pils for it now, when the reality is the sky is not always blue, the ocean pours its storms on the land, yet they always pass. This we should know, but this is not profitable … Instead we need more prophets who will say, do not fret, the sun will rise again and warm the soil, life waits …

    • happiness is such a difficult word to define….I like to think that happiness comes from being with the flow of life……as you say, it’s not all about blue skies…..and making our own definition of happiness, which can never come from someone else’s definition…..calm & beauty of the moment to you g.f.s….
