finding ritual with heart

This is an essential experience of any mystical realization. You die to your flesh and are born into your spirit. You identify yourself with the consciousness and life of which your body is but the vehicle. You die to the vehicle and become identified in your consciousness with that of which the vehicle is but the carrier. That is the God … Behind all these manifestations is the one radiance, which shines through all things.~Joseph Campbell

where did we forget along the way? where were those twists and turns that brought us here? and this place right now, is it as we know it, or could it be veiled from the eyes, and longing for the soul?

Becoming a soulful person entails a process of self-discovery. It may take a long while, and it may involve experiences that are both happy and sad, light and dark, positive and negative. The same is true for the spirit. People often think of spirituality as fixed and settled once and for all. But the spiritual life, too, is light and dark, happy and sad. It requires a special kind of work that bridges external and internal life. It consists of stages of maturing. It’s a labor of the heart and mind that at its best gives ordinary life a spiritual glow and spirituality the grounding in mundane experience that makes it real. It may take a lifetime to get the spiritual and eternal thoroughly mixed in with the earthly and temporal. Thoreau, Campbell, and Euripides ask the same question for the same reason. What myth is playing out now in your life? What sacred, spiritual drama is in play in what appears to be secular life?~Thomas Moore

beneath our stories

He looked at his own Soul
with a Telescope. What seemed
all irregular, he saw and
shewed to be beautiful
Constellations; and he added
to the Consciousness hidden
worlds within worlds.
~Coleridge
