it’s never really lost

We’ve always been taught

to land on our feet, but

the deeper lessons that

changed my life came

before getting up.

When I fell hard in recess

in fourth grade, bloodied

and unsure, it was the first

time I hugged the earth.

And when I was pinned

with cancer on my neck, it

was the vastness I glimpsed

between life and death

that restored me.

And later, when falling

from my dream of being

great, I began to find

home in the great heart

of everything.

So, despite our fear of

falling, stay down there

a while. It’s where we get

to inhale the vapors of

Heaven.

carrying on with love…

inquiry for today~ go to the edge of heaven….

on our way home….

Every day I’m still looking for God
and I’m still finding him everywhere,
in the dust, in the flowerbeds.
Certainly in the oceans,
In the islands that lay in the distance
Continents of ice, countries of sand
Each with its own set of creatures
And God, by whatever name.
How perfect to be aboard a ship with
Maybe a hundred years still in my pocket.
But it’s late, for all of us,
And in truth the only ship there is
Is the ship we are all on
Burning the world as we go.
