bullfighting & teasing the calm center of madness

verdant & existential plain

To find equanimity & peace requires an acceptance of the mystery of life itself. When we find this calm center within ourselves, it is as if we reach what is called in bullfighting our querencia. The querencia is the place in the ring where the bull feels safe. In order to successfully fight the bull, the matador must force the bull off its querencia, its place of wholenesss. This place in us as human beings is our centeredness & balance where we can remain calm, peaceful, & wise….Jack Kornfield

balancing sorrow & passionate discord…..allowing everyone’s problems to be their own….resisting indifference….maintaining openness…..experiencing the ultimate paradox of acting with complete unconditional love without controlling…

Furthermore we have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us. The labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, & where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god. And where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves. Where we had thought to travel outward, we will come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we will be with all the world….Joseph Campbell

this darkness all around us can only be illuminated by light….

 a calm center without walls….

  1. As I am reading this is am thinking ‘Hero with 1000 faces ‘ and then I see Joseph Campbell. Years as references the center in The Second coming… Things Fall apart, the center cannot hold… And when this happens he goes on to say – mere anarchy is loosed upon the world. We need urgently to find our center… Thank you…

  2. Such wisdom in the following words:

“allowing everyone’s problems to be their own….resisting indifference….maintaining openness…..experiencing the ultimate paradox of acting with complete unconditional love without controlling…”

Glad to have read this today!
