In one sense we are always traveling, & traveling as if we did not know where we were going. In another sense we have already arrived. We cannot arrive at the perfect possession of God in this life, & that is why we are traveling & in darkness. But we already possess Him by grace, & therefore, in that sense, we have arrived & are dwelling in the light. But oh! How far I have to go to find You in Whom I have already arrived……Thomas Merton
summer forgets decay, but autumn longs for renewal
the wax & wane forces our awareness….teases every fiber of deep knowing to wake from seed…let it break through…like your life…let life crack you open….
Not consciousness & self-understanding but a passionate inner presence makes us what & who we are. It is tempting to think that we are shaped by our intentions & our awareness. We are more original than we can imagine. We are driven from a place beneath awareness, & what drives us….angel, daimon, animus, duende…hurls us toward our identity & our place in time & space…..Thomas Moore

“How far I have to go to find You in Whom I have already arrived.” This rings true for me! Merton constantly amazes me.
I agree….He is a true mystic & poet. I have all of his books. Brilliant. I’m hoping to go to Bethany Spring on retreat this year. Thanks Mark….
Lucky you! I’m sure you will write about your experience when you do. I will be very interested.
