Eckhart Tolle, the great Dominican, spoke of the ’emptying out’…..This self-abandoning, a simple, momentarily held vision of oneself where he is…..where there is nothing left but a ‘positive negativity.’ To know that he cannot do anything again in the old way is the sharpest pain of all. ‘In this sense your suffering is not a defect but your chief virtue & suffering your highest activity.’ A mysterious entity flows into the space made available.
No….this is not hope…this goes beyond hope…for hope is the ego separating itself once again…no, this is agony of the spirit….the space where we make room for compassion & transformation….many of us will never know this level of emptiness…the courage required may annihilate more sensitive consitutions….but we can learn to let go a little bit more…to allow faith to teach us how to create beauty from our pain….
T.S. Eliot’s exploration of the evanescent, waking being….
In order to possess what you do not possess
You must go by the way of dispossession.
In order to arrive at what you are not
You must go through the way in which you are not.
And what you do not know is the only thing you know
And what you own is what you do not own
And where you are is where you are not.

excellent quotes, meaning is priceless. I love Tolle, yet these words from T.S. Elliot are so pure in essence. Takes a lifetime sometimes to realize “how” to consciously go through what we are not both in Owning, Being and Possessing….the deliberate negation of “what I am Not” is a powerful process. Thank you for sharing this and so many other Wisdom Quotes and Teaching. You offer a generous Service, Love, Linda
Only when empty can the cup be filled, we choose the tea we would drink, the spirits that we allow…
Love this reminder about choice…we know what we need when we listen deeply…our deepest fears can come into the light & dissolve…thanks g.f.s….
