the gentle warrior’s insight

The warrior’s approach is to say ‘yes’ to life: say ‘yea’ to it all. Participate joyfully in the sorrows of the world. We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy. When we talk about settling the world’s problems, we’re barking up the wrong tree. The world is perfect. It’s a mess. It has always been a mess. We are not going to change it. Our job is to straighten out our own lives….Joseph Campbell

only half alive simply won’t do….our wholeheartedness is the survival of our dreams, the abandoning of self-blame and the natural relinquishment of despair….the pain and the promise, never wasted……

Perhaps we all carry an immemorial wound, an infinite loss, a self-exile we perpetrate on ourselves. It turns us into isolated entities stalking the earth in search of what we think we need—the temporary stays against ennui, despair, loss, and terror. But sooner or later, the wound can carry us toward its own remedy, if we only let it…..Henry Shukman

If at the soul’s core we are images, then we must define life as the actualization over time- if the originating seed image, what Michelangelo called the ‘imagine del cuor,’ or the image in the heart, and that image- not the time that actualized it- is the primary determinant of your life……James Hillman

  1. It is a very real paradigm shift we need to make in order to learn we must align our own lives, and with that – a practice by each heart and soul – everything will come into alignment. Could that be the end to causes; to wars on poverty, drugs, and terror? If each and every one took up the challenge of aligning their own lives, how could there be conflict outside ourselves — Radical awareness indeed!

    • the clarity of our own lives can be a paradigm shift…..bravery and vulnerability needed…..seems to be a poem here…..I’m seizing the day, and wishing you those little pauses where shifts alight g.f.s…..

  2. I’m relatively sure that most of us struggle with the balance that is living. Surely, if we are blessed, something must crumble. Step on a crack, and …………well……….

But perhaps the simple truth is that there is no grand ledger, whereby we wonder to our children’s safety as payment for debt we owe. I believe we move between, into, and despite sometimes conflicting realities. We soar and we fall, mend and break over and over, along the very same fault lines. Maybe the wise realize the joy in both, and that life is not meant to be a struggle, but rather a dance. Maybe the wise are only wise because they love. ~ May your scales lean softly toward the sun. ~ Love, Bobbie

    • heart wishing wells……keen and fragranced ‘becomings’……yes, my friend, we know to come to love, to sweeten our tea with calm……blessings dear Bobbie….
