And what is normal anyway? Being human is not about being any one particular way; it is about being as life creates you- with your own particular strengths and weaknesses, gifts and challenges, quirks and oddities. To give ourselves compassion, we first have to recognize that we are suffering. We can’t heal what we can’t feel. We certainly feel the sting of falling short of our ideals, but our mind tends to focus on the failure itself, rather than the pain caused by failure. This is a crucial difference. ~Kristin Neff
we have moments of transcending our day-to-day constraints enough to sense our generous soul…..
inquiry for today~ notice any patterns in your way of being dependent on stress and agitation?
As you get older, it may be possible to let go of the deep materialism of your times and think for yourself. You don’t have to believe in anything- belief doesn’t cost much. But you can open yourself to possibility. You can live in an infinitely meaningful universe. You don’t have to be cajoled by modern sophisticates to have a limited view of what is real. You can let your imagination be free. The spiritual life begins with stepping outside this circle, freeing yourself from the tight limits of its vision. Maybe you have a soul, and maybe that soul is immortal in some way you can’t understand now. There is nothing “out there” that is not qualified by our way of imagining it, and so there can b no end to the education of the imagination. ~Thomas Moore
