measuring our love…

I could tell, the young one 

in the back of the room had

been touched in a place that

she shows no one. With a 

tremor in her voice, she asked, 

“Where do you find the 

courage?” 

I wanted to go closer and 

gently keep the door to her

treasure open a while longer.

Instead, I said, “It’s my fear

of not living the one life

I’ve been given.”

It was then that I saw a small

red bird fly from behind her

door out into the world.

This is how it happened to me.

The truth of someone being 

who they are opened my door

just enough for the bird of life 

to flutter into the open.

I have been following

its song ever since.
