Does the road wind uphill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.
But is there for the night a resting place?
A roof for when the slow,
dark hours begin.
May not the darkness
hide it from my face?
You cannot miss that inn.
Shall I meet other wayfarers at night?
Those who have gone before.
Then must I knock,
or call when just in sight?
They will not keep you
waiting at that door.
Shall I find comfort, travel-sore & weak?
Of labor you shall find the sun.
Will there be beds for me & all who seek?
Yes, beds for all who came?
…Christina Rosetti
along the path we can always come home….refresh, renew, relive old memories….gather strength to get up & move again…..taking refuge in our source, we come to terms with ourselves again…..entering our hearts as once lost & then found….
The archetypal idea of ‘home’ points in two directions at once. It points backward toward an original hint & taste for union, starting in the body of our mother. And it points forward, urging us toward the realization that this hint & taste of union might actually be true. Carl Jung says, ‘Life is a luminous pause between two great mysteries, which themselves are one.’ Somehow the end is in the beginning, & the beginning points toward the end. Some would call this homing device their soul, & some would call it the indwelling Holy Spirit. I think also of Hermann Hesse’s Steppenwolf, in which he says, ‘We have no one to guide. us. Our only guide is our homesickness.’ Even Dorothy is guided forward to Oz & back to Kansas by her constant love & search for home. Home is another word for the Spirit that we are, our True Self in God……Richard Rohr
this inner abiding, like a compass, pushes us forward into deep time, into bigger rooms holding space for a bigger soul…..who knows, this cozy hearth may lead to heaven, enlightenment, & world peace……
Old men ought to be explorers
Here & there does not matter
We must be still & still moving
Into another intensity
For another union, a deeper communion
…T.S. Eliot
What mysteries lead us on toward our goal, the one we knew when leaving, but then left at the gate,
Beautiful…we come home again & again to remind us…you might be inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s ‘Poetics of Space’…poetic reverie on home….love the gate visual too…
When we returned to the US after living in England for three years, it felt as if ‘home’ was a foreign place. We can never return completely, because life goes on, for us and for our home. We grow and learn, or suffer loss, or simply lose touch. Yet if we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, the new home can mean so much more than our limited conception.
Love the courage you show by owning vulnerability as an important tool…& for knowing that you ‘can never return completely’ allows for a new & more broad perspective…thanks for sharing…Blessings…
never stop exploring and trusting..
