the threshold of surrender

Enlightenment for a wave is the moment the wave realizes that it is water. At that moment, all fear of death disappears……Thich Nhat Hanh

some of our longest days are like night’s gifts of dreamscapes……eternity glimpsed in the breath of love……unspeakable pain finds us riding the waves…….let this be a reminder to live, to pray and to hold the hands of the ones you love….

Much like the life of ordinary waves, we as human beings are gathered in our passion out of a larger home, that sea of infinite spirit, and propelled from an unfathomable depth, we mount and curl and crest and spray, only to subside back into that from which we come. Profoundly, grace comes to the wave when it realizes what it is made of. Since it has risen from the very same water into which it will crash, its fear of ending is somehow lessened. For it is already a part of where it is going. Can it be that you and I, like simple waves, experience such an enlightenment the instant we realize that we are all made of the same water? Can truly knowing this, the way that waves know wind, lessen our fear of death? I think now that the other way to read all this is to say that enlightenment is the moment we realize that we are made of love. At that moment, all fear of living disappears. For grace comes to the heart when it realizes what it is made of and what it has risen from. In that moment, grace comforts us, that no matter the joy or pain along the way, we are already a part of where we are going. Enlightenment for a heart on Earth is the moment we accept that it is the loving that makes waves of us all, again and again and again…….Mark Nepo

pray for a blessing

Pain is the first proper step to real compassion; it can be a foundation for understanding all those who struggle with their existence. Experiencing real pain ourselves, our moral superiority comes to an end; we stop urging others to get with the program, to get their act together or to sharpen up, and start to look for the particular form of debilitation, visible or invisible that every person struggles to overcome. We suddenly find instead, our understanding and compassion engaged as to why others may find it hard to fully participate……..David Whyte

  1. Thank you for this, Blue. Earlier this week, I visited with my dad. I brought him supper, and then said, ‘tell me a story’……..and for two hours, I listened as he whispered, laughed, cried, and pulled back the corners on years and people long since past. In the process, he gave me more treasure than a lifetime could hold (here, my inheritance). The anticipation of some future loss is made sweeter in the sharing of pieces he surely thought were gone. Love always remembers. ~ Ever, Bobbie

    • What precious gifts! You are gathering these moments like shells and wrapped memories…..hope you have many more hugs…..sweetest to you Bobbie…

  2. Perhaps the expression catching the Blue Wave has a meaning that goes much deeper than the surfers even know… These simplest of expressions seem to have roots in a collective unconsciousness, a place where we all begin and end, a light at the corner of the street where we have never been, yet know so well … may fear fall down before love for you today …

    • love this…’may fear fall down before love’……and as compassion grows, so does the capacity to ride this wave…..archetypes of soul……where leaves catch light g.f.s….
