Mindfulness is the miracle by which we master and restore ourselves. Consider, for example: a magician who cuts his body into many parts and places each part in a different region- hands in the south, arms in the east, legs in the north, and then by some miraculous power lets forth a cry which reassembles whole every part of his body. Mindfulness is like that- it is the miracle which can call back in a flash our dispersed mind and restore it to wholeness so that we can live each minute of life.
~Thich Nhat Hanh
mysterious and disconcerting- this is the edge of knowing……
inquiry for today~ what does mindfulness look like today? how can you embody it?
Only by letting go of the habits of conditioned thought and inherited knowledge can we regain the innocent vision with which we were born, now informed by our more mature reason and intelligence.
In the esoteric traditions, all our knowledge is ignorance; it is seen as the most basic obstacle to the unraveling of divine mysteries. Since knowledge is inherently dualistic, based on the discriminative process of thought and language, everything we know is characterized by division and fragmentation. Spiritual truth cannot be realized through these cognitive processes, and all that is learned in this manner must be unlearned in the end.
